Donetsk, Eastern Ukraine – Authorities in Russian-controlled Donetsk report that Ukrainian forces targeted power stations in the region. Moscow also claims to have intercepted a barrage of Ukrainian drones.
The Moscow-appointed head of the Russian-controlled areas of Donetsk stated today that an “unprecedented” Ukrainian attack overnight damaged two thermal power stations, causing widespread power outages across several towns.
Denis Pushilin wrote on Telegram that heating tanks and water purification facilities at the stations had ceased functioning. Emergency crews are reportedly working to restore power supplies. Pushilin also stated that a previous Ukrainian drone attack on energy infrastructure on Monday had left approximately 500,000 people without electricity in various areas.
Kyiv has intensified its drone and long-range missile attacks on power stations and infrastructure in Russian-held parts of Donetsk in recent weeks. This is seen as an effort to disrupt military logistics and undermine Moscow’s ability to sustain its war efforts.
In addition to the strikes on Donetsk, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported that its air defenses destroyed 31 Ukrainian drones overnight. The increased attacks highlight the ongoing conflict’s impact on civilian infrastructure and the escalating use of drone warfare.
