Gas Poisoning Hospitalizes Five in Bordj Bou Arreridj

Bordj Bou Arreridj, Algeria – Five individuals have been hospitalized following a carbon monoxide poisoning incident in the Bordj Bou Arreridj province. The incident occurred early this morning in a residential area within the city.

According to a statement released by the Civil Protection services, emergency responders were dispatched at approximately 7:25 AM local time to a residence located in the ’90 Housing Unit’ neighborhood of Bordj Bou Arreridj city. The team was responding to reports of a family suffering from suspected carbon monoxide poisoning.

Upon arrival, first responders discovered five members of a single family exhibiting symptoms consistent with carbon monoxide inhalation, including severe respiratory distress. Preliminary investigations suggest the source of the carbon monoxide was a faulty space heater used for domestic heating.

“The victims were immediately provided with on-site medical assistance before being transported to the local hospital for further treatment and observation,” a Civil Protection spokesperson stated. The condition of the five individuals is currently being monitored.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of improperly maintained heating appliances, particularly during the colder months. Authorities are urging residents to ensure their heating systems are regularly inspected and properly ventilated to prevent future carbon monoxide poisoning. Carbon monoxide is a colorless, odorless gas that can be deadly when inhaled, often referred to as the “silent killer.”

Further updates will be provided as the situation develops.
