El Oued, Algeria – November 18, 2025 – Law enforcement authorities in El Oued have successfully seized a significant quantity of psychotropic drugs and apprehended several individuals involved in their distribution. A total of 12,000 pills were confiscated in two separate operations, highlighting the ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking in the region.
According to a statement released by the El Oued police department, the operations were conducted by officers from the Hassi Khelifa and Guemar police precincts. The coordinated efforts targeted individuals suspected of trafficking and distributing controlled substances.
The first operation, carried out by the Hassi Khelifa police, resulted in the seizure of 7,200 capsules of the drug Pregabalin, a commonly abused psychotropic substance. This successful intervention prevented a substantial quantity of these dangerous pills from reaching the streets.
Simultaneously, officers from the Guemar police precinct conducted a separate operation, leading to the confiscation of an additional 4,800 Pregabalin capsules. This simultaneous action underscores the coordinated strategy employed by law enforcement to disrupt drug trafficking networks across the El Oued province.
In total, five individuals, including one woman, were apprehended during the two operations. The suspects are now facing serious charges related to drug trafficking and possession of controlled substances. They have been presented before the Public Prosecutor at the courts of Debila and Guemar, where they will face legal proceedings.
These successful operations demonstrate the commitment of the El Oued police to tackling drug-related crime and protecting the community from the harmful effects of substance abuse.
