Nairobi, Kenya – The Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic’s (SADR) embassy in Nairobi recently participated in the 38th edition of the Kenya International Trade Fair, held at the Kenyatta International Conference Centre. The event served as a platform to showcase the Sahrawi cause and raise awareness about the ongoing situation in Western Sahara.
The embassy’s presence at the trade fair underscores the Sahrawi Republic’s commitment to engaging with the international community and fostering understanding of their struggle for self-determination. The participation provided an opportunity to engage with Kenyan officials, diplomats, business leaders, and the general public. Through informational materials and direct engagement, the embassy aimed to shed light on the historical context, current challenges, and aspirations of the Sahrawi people.
The Western Sahara, a disputed territory in the Maghreb region of North Africa, has been at the center of a protracted conflict. Morocco claims sovereignty over the territory, while the Polisario Front, representing the Sahrawi people, seeks independence. The United Nations recognizes the Polisario Front as the legitimate representative of the Sahrawi people and has called for a referendum on self-determination.
The Kenya International Trade Fair provided a valuable opportunity to highlight the plight of Sahrawi refugees who have been living in camps in Algeria for decades.
