Jerusalem – The office of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has released a statement welcoming the United Nations Security Council’s (UNSC) resolution regarding the Gaza Strip. The statement specifically acknowledges and praises the role of former U.S. President Donald Trump in achieving the agreement.
According to the Prime Minister’s office, the approved plan, spearheaded by Trump, is expected to usher in an era of peace and prosperity for the region. A key component of the plan involves the complete demilitarization of Gaza and concerted efforts to eliminate extremism within the territory.
The statement further asserts that Israel, in collaboration with the United States and other supportive nations, anticipates the swift return of all remaining captives. The process of disarming Gaza and dismantling Hamas’s control will commence, adhering to the directives outlined by President Trump and the U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations.
Netanyahu emphasized that Trump’s vision will facilitate Israel’s integration into the broader region and expand the scope of the Abraham Accords. The UNSC resolution, passed on Monday evening in New York, endorses the U.S.-drafted plan aimed at ending the conflict in Gaza. It calls for the full implementation of the plan and the maintenance of the ceasefire.
Thirteen members of the Security Council voted in favor of the resolution, while Russia and China abstained from voting. Neither country exercised its veto power.
The U.S. proposed the resolution to facilitate the deployment of a multinational force in Gaza, within the framework of a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas that has been in effect since October 10th. However, reports indicate that Israel has repeatedly violated the ceasefire, resulting in casualties among Palestinian civilians.
The agreement brought a halt to the large scale operation launched by Israel in Gaza, which resulted in significant infrastructure damage and casualties.
