Cairo, Egypt – Helmy Toulan, head coach of Egypt’s second national team, has lauded the Algerian national team’s performance following their recent friendly matches in Cairo. Toulan emphasized the significant technical progress displayed by Les Verts, highlighting their modern approach to the game.
Speaking to DZWatch, Toulan described the Algerian squad as playing a style akin to the European school of football, characterized by quick transitions, positional interchanges, and decentralized attacking movements. He specifically noted the strength and dynamism of the Algerian players on the flanks, particularly on the left side, adding that facing such a team provided invaluable tactical insights ahead of the upcoming Arab Cup 2025.
Toulan emphasized that the two friendly encounters against Algeria – the first of which saw a 3-2 victory for the Pharaohs, followed by a goalless draw in the second – served as a crucial testing ground for his team. He acknowledged learning a great deal from Algeria’s playing style and the agility of their players.
The Egyptian coach also mentioned that he fielded eight new players in the second match against Algeria, underscoring his unwavering focus on preparations for the Arab tournament. He stated that he is avoiding excuses at this stage, choosing to focus on optimising his squad’s performance.
Toulan’s comments reflect a positive technical assessment of the Algerian national team, acknowledging their capabilities as they prepare for the Arab Cup with high ambitions.
