The Minister of Water Resources, Taha Derbal, visited Ain Temouchent today, accompanied by the Governor and several local officials, to oversee efforts to strengthen the water and irrigation sectors within the region.
During the visit, local authorities presented a comprehensive overview of the current state and future prospects of the irrigation sector, focusing on key aspects such as the provision of potable water, sanitation, and agricultural irrigation.
The Minister issued a series of directives, emphasizing the critical need to adhere to established timelines for the completion of development projects related to public services. He urged stakeholders to accelerate the pace of work while maintaining strict adherence to established technical standards.
Minister Derbal also stressed the importance of enhancing management control, expanding the use of digitalization, and developing improved monitoring systems for irrigation facilities. These measures are aimed at ensuring a rapid and high-quality service for citizens.
He highlighted the necessity of adopting modern administrative methods to move away from traditional management styles, aligning with the dynamic development trajectory of the region. The goal is to position the irrigation sector as a driving force and facilitator of local development.
Furthermore, the Minister underscored that treated wastewater represents a valuable resource that should be strategically invested in agricultural and urban irrigation. He emphasized the need to maximize the benefits derived from sanitation facilities.
Minister Derbal called for the creation of new irrigation perimeters and the expansion of irrigated areas. He also affirmed the continuation of the plan to protect cities from flooding. During the visit, the Minister supervised the provision of new equipment to the Algerian Water Company and the National Sanitation Office. This investment aims to strengthen and improve the quality of public water services throughout the province.
