Algeria and Vietnam Forge Stronger Ties Through Enhanced Cooperation

Algiers – Algeria and Vietnam are set to deepen their bilateral cooperation across a range of sectors following high-level discussions. Prime Minister Aïmene Benabderrahmane affirmed that the strategic partnership between the two nations represents a shared vision for maximizing collaboration opportunities in political, military, security, economic, technological, scientific, and cultural domains.

During a press briefing, Prime Minister Benabderrahmane highlighted his talks with Vietnamese Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính, which facilitated a comprehensive assessment of the current state of relations. He announced the adoption of practical measures aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation, including intensified political consultation and diplomatic coordination at all levels.

Defense and Security Cooperation to Increase

Increased cooperation in defense, security, and combating non-traditional threats, particularly transnational crime, is also prioritized. This includes expanding economic, trade, and investment cooperation by supporting partnerships between economic institutions in both countries. Algerian authorities are keen to encourage economic operators to explore and capitalize on investment opportunities and establish mutually beneficial partnerships, especially in the hydrocarbons, renewable energy, agriculture, industry, and infrastructure sectors.

A New Chapter in Bilateral Relations

Benabderrahmane emphasized that the declaration of a strategic partnership with Vietnam marks a new chapter in strengthening relations between the two friendly nations. He stressed President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s commitment to promoting cooperation with Vietnam through a renewed approach aimed at building a strong and diversified partnership that reflects the historical ties between the two peoples.

Algeria’s ASEAN Engagement

Algeria’s accession to the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia last July presents an opportunity to continue working with Vietnam and other ASEAN member states to build an integrated and constructive cooperation space based on the values of solidarity and mutual benefit. Benabderrahmane expressed confidence that Algeria’s request for “sectoral dialogue partner” status with ASEAN will receive Vietnam’s support, given its prominent role within the organization.
