Severe Thunderstorms Forecast for Several Algerian Provinces

Algiers, Algeria – Several provinces across Algeria are bracing for severe thunderstorms today, Thursday, with rainfall expected to exceed seasonal averages in some areas. The National Meteorology Office has issued a special weather bulletin warning of significant precipitation throughout the day.

The bulletin indicates rainfall amounts between 30 and 40 millimeters, potentially reaching or exceeding 50 millimeters locally, in the provinces of Tipaza, Algiers, Blida, Bouira, and northern Medea. Residents in these areas are advised to take necessary precautions.

Furthermore, heavier rainfall is anticipated in other provinces, with accumulations ranging from 40 to 50 millimeters and the possibility of exceeding 70 millimeters in localized areas. These provinces include Boumerdes, Tizi Ouzou, Bejaia, northern Setif, Jijel, Skikda, Annaba, and El Tarf. Citizens in these regions should be particularly vigilant.

The meteorological disturbances are expected to persist throughout Thursday, with the weather alert remaining in effect until Saturday. Authorities are warning of potential flash floods and rising water levels, particularly in low-lying areas. Residents are urged to stay informed about the latest weather updates and to avoid unnecessary travel during periods of heavy rainfall.
