Algeria Eyes New Energy Partnerships with Germany

Algerian Minister of Energy and Renewable Energy, Mourad Adjal, received a delegation from the Federal State of Bavaria, Germany, on Thursday. The delegation was led by Thomas Goppel, State Secretary in the Bavarian Ministry of Economic Affairs, Regional Development and Energy.

The meeting, held at the Ministry headquarters, focused on exploring opportunities for cooperation and partnership between Algeria and Bavaria in the energy sector.

Minister Adjal highlighted the strong Algerian-German relations, expressing Algeria’s interest in expanding cooperation across various economic fields, particularly in energy. He emphasized Algeria’s diverse energy mix, positioning it as a reliable energy source for Europe.

The Minister outlined Algeria’s energy production capabilities, spanning traditional and renewable sources, including nuclear energy and green hydrogen. He also presented key energy projects underway, such as the ambitious plan to generate 15,000 megawatts of renewable energy and the North-South electricity interconnection project, aimed at exporting clean energy to Europe. Adjal expressed Algeria’s keen interest in forging further partnerships with German stakeholders across various economic sectors.

Thomas Goppel conveyed Germany’s interest in collaborating with Algeria through robust and mutually beneficial economic partnerships in the energy domain. He acknowledged the increasing energy demand in Europe and suggested that Germany’s technological expertise could benefit Algeria, creating a win-win scenario.

The meeting concluded with an agreement to initiate a collaborative project, involving exchange sessions and consultations to explore potential avenues for cooperation and partnership. Both sides expressed optimism regarding the future of energy cooperation between Algeria and Bavaria. This marks a significant step towards strengthening energy ties between the two regions.
