Algiers – The Secretary of State to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, in charge of African Affairs, Mrs. Salama Bakhta Mansouri, chaired the 11th session of the Steering Committee of Focal Points of the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) today, Thursday. The meeting was held via video conference.
This session took place within the framework of Algeria’s current rotating presidency of the Forum of Heads of State and Government of the APRM, according to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National Community Abroad and African Affairs.
The APRM is a self-monitoring mechanism voluntarily adopted by African Union member states. It aims to promote good governance, socio-economic development, and political stability across the continent through peer learning and assessment.
During the meeting, participants discussed strategies to enhance the effectiveness of the APRM and to strengthen its impact on governance reforms within member states. Key areas of focus included improving data collection and analysis, fostering greater stakeholder engagement, and ensuring the implementation of recommendations arising from peer review exercises.
Mrs. Mansouri emphasized Algeria’s commitment to supporting the APRM and its objectives. She highlighted the importance of African ownership and leadership in driving the continent’s development agenda.
The Ministry’s statement further noted that the meeting provided a valuable platform for exchanging experiences and best practices among APRM focal points, contributing to the overall strengthening of the mechanism and its role in promoting good governance in Africa.The session concluded with a renewed commitment from participating nations to advance the APRM’s goals and to work collaboratively towards a more prosperous and stable Africa.
