Reports Suggest Petković Set to Leave Algeria National Team
Algerian sports journalist Mohamed El Oudhahi, working with beIN Sports, revealed on Sunday that national team coach Vladimir Petković has privately informed his staff of his intention to step down as head coach of the Algerian national team.
In a post shared on his Facebook account, El Oudhahi wrote: “There is no future with the national team. The latest information indicates that Petković has told his staff that his mission with the Desert Warriors has reached its end, with an official announcement expected in the coming hours.”
He added that the situation is unlikely to turn into a prolonged conflict, stating that “there will be no arm-wrestling or war of attrition as expected. Reason has prevailed, leading to a mutual separation without noise or exaggerated financial demands, contrary to what some had suggested.”
According to the same source, the Algerian Football Federation (FAF) is reportedly leaning toward appointing a coach from the Spanish school as Petković’s successor, signaling a potential shift in technical direction for the team.
These developments come amid growing reports that Petković’s contract with the national team has already been terminated by mutual agreement, with an official statement from the FAF expected soon to confirm the decision and outline the next steps for the future of the Algerian squad.
