Saharan Army Targets Moroccan Forces in Mahbes Sector

Units of the Saharan People’s Liberation Army (SPLA) have reportedly targeted Moroccan support forces and positions in the Mahbes sector, causing significant casualties and material damage. According to a military statement released by the Sahrawi National Defense Ministry, the attacks are part of an ongoing war of attrition against Moroccan forces.

The statement, relayed by the Sahrawi Press Agency, indicated that SPLA units conducted a focused bombardment targeting Moroccan support troops in the Akrarat Al Atasa area of the Mahbes sector. Additionally, Moroccan positions in the Ibيرات تنوشاد area, also within the Mahbes sector, were subjected to shelling.

“These operations are a continuation of our strategy to weaken the occupying forces,” a military source stated, emphasizing the determination of the SPLA to maintain pressure on Moroccan troops.

The SPLA has intensified its attacks against Moroccan forces, inflicting heavy losses in personnel and equipment along the security wall, often referred to as the “wall of shame”. The Sahrawi authorities claim their forces are successfully degrading the Moroccan military capabilities in the contested territories.

The recent escalation comes amid stalled negotiations regarding the future of Western Sahara, a disputed territory claimed by both Morocco and the Polisario Front, which represents the Sahrawi people. The United Nations has been attempting to mediate a resolution to the conflict for decades. The renewed fighting threatens to further destabilize the region.
