Algeria’s Economy Shows Growth in Q2 2025

Algiers – The Algerian economy experienced a growth rate of 3.9% in the second quarter of 2025, according to the latest figures released by the National Statistics Office. This represents a slight increase compared to the 3.7% growth recorded during the same period last year.

This positive performance was largely driven by the strong performance of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) outside the hydrocarbon sector. The National Statistics Office indicated that non-hydrocarbon GDP grew by 5.3%, boosted by positive results in several key sectors.

Key sectors contributing to this growth include:

  • Industry: +6.4%
  • Trade: +6.7%
  • Agriculture: +4.5%
  • Electricity and Gas: +9.7%

However, the hydrocarbon sector experienced a contraction of 1.2% during the quarter, attributed to a slight decrease in production.

Data also revealed a significant increase in domestic demand, rising by 10.2% compared to 6.8% in the second quarter of 2024. This surge is primarily due to a 12.4% increase in investment.

Household final consumption saw a slight decrease, registering 3.9% compared to 4.1% a year prior. Public administration consumption recorded a growth of 3.1%, following a 2.3% increase in the second quarter of 2024.

In current values, the GDP reached DZD 9,410 billion during the period, compared to DZD 8,954.1 billion a year earlier, representing an increase of 5.1%. This reflects a decrease in inflation to 1.1%, compared to 4.1% during the same period last year.
