Algiers, Algeria – The Algerian Water Desalination Company (ADC), a subsidiary of Sonatrach Group, hosted Tobias Gotthardt, State Secretary of the Bavarian State Ministry of Economic Affairs, Regional Development and Energy, along with a high-level delegation today.
Lahcen Bade, CEO of ADC, welcomed the delegation, accompanied by Nawal Omrani, representative of the Minister of State for Hydrocarbons and Mines, and Abdelouahab Meftahi, Chairman of the Board of Fouka Water, in addition to senior company executives.
This visit underscores the growing Algerian-German cooperation and the promotion of value-added partnerships in non-conventional water resources, energy, and advanced technologies.
In his welcoming remarks, Mr. Bade emphasized the company’s commitment to deepening cooperation with German institutions, recognized as leading industrial platforms in Europe for innovation, energy transition, and smart systems. He praised the German side’s keen interest in Algeria’s advanced desalination experience, which has become a central pillar of national water security.
During the visit, technical teams presented a detailed overview of the development of the water desalination sector in Algeria, focusing on major projects completed to the highest global standards in terms of energy efficiency, industrial digitalization, and environmental protection.
The delegation also toured the Fouka 2 plant, gaining firsthand insight into the technological control and operational excellence achieved by Algerian experts. This expertise has enabled Algeria to develop advanced capabilities in operating desalination plants and developing innovative solutions that enhance its technological independence.
At the conclusion of the visit, Mr. Gotthardt expressed his deep appreciation for Algeria’s significant progress in desalination, emphasizing Bavaria’s interest in expanding cooperation and exploring new partnership opportunities based on sustainable development, energy transition, and technology transfer.
This visit reaffirms the leading role of the Algerian Water Desalination Company as a pivotal strategic player in ensuring national water security and as a reliable international partner capable of building a modern and sustainable water system that meets future demands.
