Algiers – The Ministry of Post and Telecommunications is prioritizing the enhancement of postal services and the expansion of internet connectivity across the nation, according to Minister Said Ali Zerrouki. This announcement came during a parliamentary session at the People’s National Assembly where government officials addressed questions from members.

Minister Zerrouki emphasized the ministry’s commitment to improving services for citizens, specifically focusing on internet access and ensuring liquidity at post offices and ATMs. He reiterated that upgrading postal services and widespread internet access are key priorities, aligning with the pledges of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune.

The Minister also highlighted the imminent launch of 5G technology within the coming weeks, anticipating a significant improvement in services provided by mobile operators. Currently, approximately 6.8 million households benefit from internet services, with 2.9 million connected via fiber optics. Efforts are ongoing to replace all copper cables with fiber optics by the end of 2027.

Regarding the postal sector, Zerrouki stated that the ATM availability rate exceeds 98 percent. To further improve electronic payment services, a new application is currently in its trial phase. This application will provide BaridiMob customers with a virtual card and a virtual electronic payment device, according to the Minister.

The new app is expected to streamline electronic transactions and offer greater convenience for BaridiMob users.
