Units of the Saharan People’s Liberation Army (SPLA) have reportedly targeted Moroccan support forces and positions in the Mahbes sector, according to a military statement released by the Sahrawi National Defense Ministry. The operation resulted in what the statement described as significant losses in personnel and equipment for the Moroccan side.
The statement detailed that the SPLA conducted a concentrated bombardment targeting Moroccan army support units in the Akrart El Atassa area of the Mahbes sector. Further attacks were carried out against Moroccan troop concentrations in the Ibirat Tanouchad area, also within the same sector.
These actions are described as part of an ongoing war of attrition against Moroccan forces. The SPLA asserts that its attacks are inflicting heavy casualties and causing substantial damage to equipment along what it refers to as the “wall of shame” – a reference to the Moroccan Western Sahara Wall.
The attacks come amid continued tensions in the region.
