Algeria and Germany Forge New Energy Partnership

Algiers – Algeria and Germany are embarking on a new chapter of energy cooperation, following a high-level meeting at the Ministry of Energy and Renewable Energies. Minister Mourad Adjal welcomed a delegation from the German state of Bavaria, led by Thomas Goppel, State Secretary of the Bavarian Ministry of Economic Affairs, Regional Development, and Energy.

The discussions centered on exploring potential collaborations and expanding partnerships across the energy sector. Minister Adjal emphasized the strong relationship between Algeria and Germany, expressing Algeria’s desire to elevate economic cooperation, particularly in the energy field, which he described as a cornerstone of future partnership.

He highlighted Algeria’s diverse energy mix, positioning the nation as a reliable energy supplier to Europe and a key partner in clean energy initiatives. Minister Adjal showcased Algeria’s production capabilities in both traditional and renewable energy sources, including nuclear energy and green hydrogen potential. He also emphasized major projects underway, such as the 15,000 MW renewable energy project and the North-South electricity interconnection project, designed to facilitate the export of clean energy to Europe. He stated Algeria’s ambition to broaden partnerships with German stakeholders.

Thomas Goppel conveyed Germany’s keen interest in establishing a robust energy partnership with Algeria, citing the growing European demand for energy. He affirmed that German technological capabilities could significantly enhance Algerian projects, ensuring mutually beneficial collaboration.

The meeting concluded with an agreement to initiate a new phase of cooperation, involving exchange sessions and consultations to explore opportunities and develop joint projects in the energy and economic sectors. This marks a significant step towards a strengthened energy alliance between Algeria and Germany.
