Annaba Customs officials have successfully thwarted an attempt to smuggle a significant quantity of hallucinogenic pills across the border. The operation, conducted by the passenger inspection teams at the Oulad Moumen border post, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Souk Ahras Customs Inspectorate, underscores ongoing efforts to combat organized crime and protect national borders.
According to a statement released by the General Directorate of Customs, the operation resulted in the seizure of 5,001 tablets of pregabalin 150mg and 2,885 tablets of Lexomil 6mg, in addition to 130 grams of Lexomil powder. The illicit substances were meticulously concealed within the components of a Renault Clio Classic vehicle.
Authorities revealed that the initial batch of seized items was discovered beneath the engine cover. The second cache was found hidden inside a cavity located beneath the air conditioning unit, an attempt to camouflage the contraband and evade detection during inspection.
Following the completion of seizure procedures, an official report was filed, and the arrested driver, along with two other individuals, were presented before the Public Prosecutor’s Office at the Souk Ahras Court. This will allow for further investigations and the application of the relevant legal measures.
This successful operation highlights the vigilance of customs agents and their unwavering commitment to combating the smuggling of narcotics and psychotropic substances across land borders. The authorities remain dedicated to safeguarding the nation from the dangers posed by illegal drug trafficking. Further details will be released as the investigation progresses.
