Algeria Participates in G20 Consultative Meeting Ahead of Summit

Prime Minister Sifi Grib, representing the President of the Republic, participated in a consultative meeting on Friday ahead of the G20 Summit. The meeting was chaired by Cyril Ramaphosa, President of the Republic of South Africa, and precedes the summit scheduled for November 22nd and 23rd, 2025, in Johannesburg.

The meeting was attended by heads of state and government from African countries invited to participate in the G20 Summit, as well as officials from several regional organizations on the continent. Discussions focused on the expected outcomes of the summit, particularly on issues of priority for African nations. South Africa, as the current chair, has placed these issues at the heart of the global event’s agenda, which is being held on African soil for the first time.

Participants also discussed ways to strengthen joint African action, especially through supporting initiatives led by South Africa within its G20 presidency. The meeting emphasized leveraging the African Union’s membership within the group to amplify the continent’s voice and defend its interests, particularly regarding: debt management, ensuring sustainable development financing, and achieving equitable exploitation and valorization of natural resources.

The attendees underscored the necessity of reforming the global governance system, both within international financial institutions and the United Nations system. Africa continues to suffer from under-representation and marginalization in international decision-making processes that are critical to the future of humanity.

The Prime Minister’s participation highlights Algeria’s commitment to engaging with global partners on key issues impacting the African continent and advocating for its interests on the international stage.
