Algeria Reaffirms Commitment to African Integration in Kinshasa

Kinshasa – Algeria has reiterated its unwavering support for continental integration and enhanced economic cooperation among African nations. This commitment was underscored by Monther Boudhen, head of the Algerian parliamentary delegation, during the 84th session of the Executive Committee of the African Parliamentary Union and the 47th Conference of Speakers of National Parliaments held in Kinshasa.

Addressing the conference, Boudhen emphasized Algeria’s firm belief in the importance of fostering African unity and highlighted the recent success of the 4th Intra-African Trade Fair, hosted in Algiers under the patronage of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune. The event brought together thousands of economic actors from across the continent.

Boudhen also lauded President Tebboune’s initiative to launch an African fund dedicated to financing startups and young innovators. He stressed that investing in the potential of young people is crucial for building an innovative and globally competitive African economy. He stated that these efforts align with the African Union’s Agenda 2063 and reflect Algeria’s vision of empowering youth and promoting self-reliance.

The Deputy Speaker of the National People’s Assembly highlighted the strategic importance of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) as a cornerstone of continental economic integration. He argued that the success of the AfCFTA requires a unified political will and advanced coordination to remove barriers, improve transportation and logistics infrastructure, and facilitate the movement of goods and capital.

Boudhen noted that Algeria was among the first countries to sign the agreement establishing the AfCFTA and continues to work towards strengthening intra-African trade and consolidating South-South cooperation.

Furthermore, the head of the Algerian parliamentary delegation addressed the dual challenges facing the continent in the areas of energy transition and strengthening national sovereignty. He called for greater African cooperation in developing joint energy projects capable of supporting sustainable development. He added that Algeria has adopted an ambitious energy policy based on renewable energy, green hydrogen, and scientific research, emphasizing that achieving sustainable development requires full national sovereignty and control.
