A new Israeli drone strike in southern Lebanon has resulted in one fatality. The incident occurred on Friday evening near the town of Froun, in the Bint Jbeil district, according to the Lebanese Ministry of Public Health.
Reports indicate that the drone targeted a vehicle on the road between Froun and Al-Tawiri. The targeted vehicle was reportedly destroyed, and its occupant sustained fatal injuries.
This latest strike follows a recent visit by Lebanese President Joseph Aoun to the army headquarters in the southern city of Tyre, commemorating Independence Day. In a subsequent televised address, President Aoun stated Lebanon’s readiness to negotiate with Israel, under the auspices of the UN, the US, or a joint international body, to permanently halt cross-border attacks. He reaffirmed the Lebanese army’s preparedness to take over occupied points along Lebanon’s southern border with Israel.
Lebanese Army Commander, General Rudolph Haikal, who accompanied President Aoun, stated that Lebanese forces have been making significant efforts to strengthen their deployment south of the Litani River since the cessation of hostilities agreement. However, he noted that continued Israeli incursions impede these efforts.
Despite the agreement that came into effect in November 2024, Israel continues to occupy positions within Lebanese territory and conduct extensive attacks on Lebanon. The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) reported on Thursday that it has recorded over 10,000 Israeli aerial and ground violations within Lebanese territory since the ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah in November 2024.
UNIFIL stated that a fragile stability prevails along the Blue Line between Lebanon and Israel. Peacekeepers and the Lebanese army conduct daily patrols to prevent escalation and contribute to restoring stability in southern Lebanon. UNIFIL further noted that since the cessation of hostilities agreement in 2024, it has recorded over 7,500 aerial violations and approximately 2,500 ground violations north of the Blue Line (within Lebanese territory).
DZWatch will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as they become available.
