In a move aimed at preventing the potential spread of bedbugs, Algerian authorities have announced tightened health measures at border crossings. Recent reports of bedbug infestations in French cities have prompted this proactive response.

The Algerian Health Ministry, in a statement, emphasized the importance of adhering to international health regulations to preempt any potential epidemiological developments. In collaboration with various authorities, they have activated a robust health vigilance system to thwart any potential bedbug infiltration.

These comprehensive procedures include rigorous health monitoring and disinfection protocols for aircraft, ships, and land transportation, should a threat be detected by border health control center staff.

Algerian Health Minister Abdelhak Saihi, on Tuesday, refuted claims of bedbug infestations within the North African country, reassuring the public.

With a considerable flow of traffic between Algeria and France, concerns have arisen about the possible transmission of these insects. French Health Minister Aurelien Rousseau urged calm, advising against panic over the situation.

The French government has pledged to take action to reassure and safeguard the public against the bedbug infestation, which has garnered attention through numerous videos shared on social media platforms. These videos depict bedbugs in buses, trains, airports, and other public places in Paris, just as the city prepares to host the 2024 Olympic Games.

Bedbugs, small parasitic insects that feed on both humans and animals, are typically found in bedding and furniture. They can cause itchy bites and become a nuisance in homes and hotels.

Algeria’s proactive approach underscores the importance of vigilance and cooperation to maintain public health and prevent the spread of such pests.
