RIYADH – The Algerian and Saudi Energy Ministers convened in Riyadh to discuss strengthening energy partnerships and exploring opportunities in clean hydrogen development. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 21st session of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) General Conference, held in Riyadh from November 23-27, 2025.
Algeria’s Minister of State, Minister of Hydrocarbons and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, held a bilateral meeting with Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Energy, Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman bin Abdulaziz. The Algerian Ambassador to Saudi Arabia and several senior officials from both countries’ energy sectors also attended.
The meeting provided an opportunity to review the strong relations between Algeria and Saudi Arabia and to reaffirm their shared commitment to enhancing bilateral cooperation in energy and mining. Discussions focused on expanding future collaboration in these crucial sectors.
Areas of potential partnership explored included hydrocarbon exploration and development, the petrochemical industry, and clean hydrogen production. The ministers also discussed potential collaboration between major companies from both countries, such as Sonatrach from Algeria and Saudi Aramco and ACWA Power from Saudi Arabia. The goal is to support industrial investment and enhance added value in the energy sector.
Strategic issues of mutual interest were also addressed, including supporting local content in energy industry supply chains, exchanging expertise and knowledge, technology transfer, and developing training, research, and innovation programs in the oil and mineral industries.
Minister Arkab emphasized Algeria’s commitment to accelerating the energy transition by reducing the carbon footprint of the oil and gas sectors and adopting new, environmentally friendly solutions.
Regarding global market developments, both sides expressed satisfaction with the current state of the international oil market and highlighted the pivotal role of coordination within OPEC and the OPEC+ alliance in achieving stability. They reiterated their countries’ commitment to implementing OPEC+ agreements and called for continued consultation among producers to ensure market balance and encourage long-term investment in the energy sector.
