Israeli Forces Issue, Renew Administrative Detention Orders for 51 Palestinians

Israeli authorities have issued and renewed administrative detention orders against 51 Palestinian detainees, according to a joint statement released Monday by the Palestinian Authority’s Commission of Detainees’ Affairs and the Palestinian Prisoner’s Society.

The organizations assert that the Israeli military continues to escalate its use of administrative detention, a practice that has seen a significant rise since the beginning of the ongoing conflict. The number of Palestinians held under administrative detention has reached unprecedented levels, raising serious concerns about due process and human rights.

The Commission of Detainees’ Affairs and the Palestinian Prisoner’s Society released a list containing the names of the 51 detainees affected by the new and renewed administrative detention orders. These orders allow for imprisonment without charge or trial, a practice widely condemned by international human rights organizations.

Administrative detention involves imprisoning individuals without formally charging them with a crime. Detainees and their lawyers are often denied access to the evidence used to justify their imprisonment, a clear violation of international humanitarian law.

As of early November, the total number of Palestinian prisoners held in Israeli prisons exceeds 9,250, including 3,368 individuals held under administrative detention. This alarming figure underscores the urgent need for international scrutiny and action to ensure the fair treatment and protection of Palestinian detainees.

The use of administrative detention raises serious questions about the adherence to international legal standards and the protection of fundamental rights. DZWatch will continue to monitor this situation and report on developments as they unfold.
