Nablus, West Bank – Heavy exchanges of gunfire erupted earlier today between Palestinian resistance fighters and Israeli occupation forces during an operation in the eastern part of Nablus, according to reports. The Israeli military and internal security agency (Shin Bet) confirmed the clashes, stating they were conducting operational activities in the area.
Reports indicate that an armed Palestinian was killed during the confrontation in the eastern district of Nablus. Initial Israeli reports have identified the deceased as the alleged perpetrator of a vehicular attack that resulted in the deaths of two Israeli soldiers near Nablus approximately a year and a half ago.
Palestinian sources have also reported a fire breaking out inside an apartment building near the Arab Bank branch in the Al-Hisba area, east of Nablus. The fire reportedly resulted from Israeli shelling during the siege of a resistance fighter.
Footage circulating on Palestinian social media platforms purportedly documents the armed clashes that unfolded during the Israeli incursion into the area. Local sources further reported that Israeli forces arrested two young men after surrounding a house near the Dahleh Tunis neighborhood, west of Nablus.
This incident follows a series of incursions carried out by Israeli forces in Nablus. Raids included the Old City and its surroundings, with residents reporting heavy gunfire during search and arrest operations. Israeli forces also raided the Ras al-Ain area and the town of Huwara, south of the city, conducting searches of homes amidst a heavy military presence.
These events occur amidst escalating incursions by the Israeli military into various Palestinian cities and towns throughout the West Bank, coupled with increased attacks by settlers under Israeli military protection. These attacks have intensified since the start of the Israeli war in Gaza in October 2023.
The ongoing violence in the West Bank has resulted in a significant number of casualties, with over one thousand Palestinians martyred and thousands more injured. Additionally, thousands of Palestinians, including hundreds of children, have been detained.
