Algeria and Egypt Strengthen Security Cooperation in Cairo

Cairo – The Algerian Minister of Interior, Said Saayoud, and his Egyptian counterpart, Mahmoud Tawfik, affirmed the importance of strengthening security cooperation between their two countries during a meeting held in Cairo on Tuesday. The discussions focused on combating transnational crime in all its forms.

The meeting took place at the Egyptian Ministry of Interior on the sidelines of the 9th session of the Algerian-Egyptian Joint Higher Committee, held from November 23rd to 26th. Both ministers exchanged views on issues of mutual interest, particularly developments in the security situation at the regional and international levels.

The meeting served as an opportunity for both parties to emphasize the significance of enhanced bilateral cooperation in confronting transnational crime, specifically addressing drug and psychotropic substance trafficking, irregular migration, and human trafficking. Furthermore, they agreed to strengthen coordination and joint action in combating cybercrime, intensifying the exchange of experiences and expertise between the security agencies and training institutions of both countries.

As part of exploring ways to bolster bilateral efforts, an agreement was reached to schedule a future meeting involving experts from both ministries. This meeting will be dedicated to defining a roadmap for strengthening bilateral cooperation activities. During the discussions, both parties commended the distinguished nature and historical depth of Algerian-Egyptian relations.

The ministers highlighted the crucial role of sustained collaboration in addressing shared security challenges and fostering stability in the region. This commitment underscores the strategic partnership between Algeria and Egypt in maintaining security and combating organized crime.
