Egypt to Host Gaza Reconstruction Conference Amid Ceasefire Efforts

Cairo – Egypt is set to host an international conference focused on the early recovery and reconstruction of Gaza, announced President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi on Tuesday. The announcement underscores Egypt’s continued commitment to the region and its people.

President El-Sisi, during a meeting with the Prime Minister of Algeria, emphasized that Egypt is actively working with all parties to implement the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip and solidify the cessation of hostilities. He reiterated the importance of halting practices that harm Palestinians in the West Bank and stressed the urgent need for humanitarian aid to flow into Gaza.

The announcement comes as representatives from Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey – key mediators alongside the United States in the Gaza ceasefire agreement – convened in Cairo on Tuesday to discuss the second phase of the accord.

According to reports, the meeting included the heads of Egyptian and Turkish intelligence, as well as the Prime Minister of Qatar. Discussions centered on ways to intensify joint efforts, in collaboration with the United States, to successfully implement the second phase of the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas.

The extensive damage inflicted on Gaza during the recent conflict has left the region in dire need of reconstruction. International organizations estimate the cost of rebuilding Gaza to be substantial, requiring a concerted global effort.

The ceasefire agreement brought a halt to the intense fighting that began in October 2023. While the agreement has been a crucial step towards peace, violations have been reported. Hamas has affirmed its commitment to the terms of the agreement and called for Israel to adhere to its implementation.

Egypt’s initiative to host the international conference signals a strong commitment to supporting the Palestinian people and fostering long-term stability in the region. The conference is expected to bring together international stakeholders to coordinate efforts and mobilize resources for the vital task of rebuilding Gaza.
