Israeli Forces Conduct Demolitions in Gaza as Winter Deepens Humanitarian Crisis

Gaza Strip – Israeli military forces conducted a series of demolitions and shelling operations early Wednesday along the eastern border of the Gaza Strip. The operations coincided with intense gunfire from military vehicles and drones.

In the northern Gaza Strip, reports indicate that Israeli artillery shelled areas east of Jabalia. Simultaneously, Israeli forces carried out a demolition operation accompanied by artillery fire east of Gaza City. Heavy gunfire was also reported east of the Al-Tuffah neighborhood, originating from Israeli drones and military vehicles.

In the southern Gaza Strip, Israeli warplanes launched airstrikes on Bani Suheila, east of Khan Yunis, while artillery shelling occurred within the designated buffer zone. Israeli vehicles also reportedly fired towards areas southeast of Khan Yunis. Local sources reported shelling and gunfire by Israeli forces towards the outskirts of Rafah, in the southernmost part of the Gaza Strip.

This escalation comes as the Israeli military continues its operations to demolish remaining buildings and infrastructure within the buffer zone across various parts of the Gaza Strip, following the ceasefire agreement which came into effect on October 10th.

In a separate development, the Civil Defense in Gaza has warned of a worsening humanitarian crisis for hundreds of thousands of displaced people living in tents. The onset of winter and the increasing impact of weather systems are exacerbating the already dire conditions.

Mahmoud Basal, spokesperson for the Civil Defense in Gaza, stated that field monitoring of shelters and tent camps, along with numerous appeals from across the Gaza Strip, confirm that these tents are inadequate for living and fail to provide basic necessities for safe living, especially with the arrival of winter and intensifying weather conditions.

Basal added that the existing tents leak rainwater and fail to protect children, women, and the elderly from the cold and wind. They also lack basic amenities.
