Global Groups Urge Decolonization of Western Sahara

Occupied El Aaiun – Political parties, organizations, and prominent figures from across the globe have issued a strong condemnation of the Moroccan occupation in Western Sahara, calling for the swift decolonization of the territory and the immediate realization of the Sahrawi people’s right to self-determination.

The international coalition of voices has amplified its demands amid growing concerns over human rights violations and the prolonged denial of fundamental freedoms to the Sahrawi population. In a series of statements released Wednesday, November 26, 2025, various groups highlighted the urgent need for the international community to exert greater pressure on Morocco to comply with international law and United Nations resolutions.

“The ongoing occupation represents a grave injustice and a blatant disregard for the inalienable rights of the Sahrawi people,” stated a representative of a European human rights organization. “The world cannot stand idly by while a people are denied their right to choose their own destiny.”

The calls for action specifically emphasize the importance of holding a free and fair referendum, allowing the Sahrawi people to exercise their right to self-determination without coercion or interference. Several political parties have pledged to lobby their respective governments to adopt a more assertive stance on the issue, advocating for targeted sanctions against individuals and entities complicit in the perpetuation of the occupation.

Furthermore, the organizations have vowed to continue raising awareness about the plight of the Sahrawi people and to provide unwavering support to their struggle for independence. They have also condemned the exploitation of natural resources in the occupied territory, arguing that such activities are in direct violation of international law and further undermine the Sahrawi people’s right to self-determination.

The renewed international focus on Western Sahara underscores the growing recognition that a just and lasting resolution to the conflict is essential for regional stability and the promotion of human rights. The pressure is mounting on the international community to take decisive action and ensure that the Sahrawi people are finally able to exercise their right to self-determination.
