Algerian President of the National People’s Assembly Ibrahim Boughalli condemned the Israeli occupation of Palestine on October 8, 2023. In a speech delivered during a session to vote on the 2023 budget correction law, Boughalli said that the Israeli occupation is responsible for the instability in the region.

“What is happening in Palestine is a natural consequence of the Israeli occupation’s brutality,” Boughalli said. “Our country has always been firm in its positions, loyal to the covenant of the righteous martyrs and free fighters.”

Boughalli also reiterated Algeria’s unwavering support for the Palestinian cause, saying that Algeria is “more than ever committed to the noble principles of non-alignment and non-interference in the internal affairs of countries.”

Boughalli’s comments come amid a recent escalation in violence in Palestine. Israeli forces have carried out a number of airstrikes in the Gaza Strip, killing and wounding dozens of Palestinians. The violence has also led to protests in the West Bank, where Israeli forces have used live ammunition against protesters, killing several.

Boughalli’s condemnation of the Israeli occupation is in line with Algeria’s long-standing support for the Palestinian cause. Algeria was one of the first countries to recognize the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) and has provided the Palestinians with political, financial, and military support.

Boughalli’s comments are also likely to be welcomed by the Palestinian Authority, which has been seeking international support to end the Israeli occupation.
