Algiers – Algeria and India are exploring avenues to strengthen their bilateral cooperation, particularly in the energy sector. Minister of State, Minister of Hydrocarbons and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, received the Ambassador of the Republic of India to Algeria, Swati Vijay Kulkarni, at the ministry headquarters on Wednesday, November 26, 2025.
The meeting, attended by senior ministry officials, focused on the current state and future prospects of Algerian-Indian relations. Both sides emphasized their shared desire to deepen partnerships, especially in hydrocarbons and mining. Algeria’s vast potential in these areas, combined with India’s technical and industrial capabilities, presents significant opportunities for collaboration.
Discussions also centered on investment opportunities within the Algerian market, including exploration and production of oil and gas, petrochemicals, development of energy infrastructure, engineering, and the manufacturing of equipment for the oil and gas sector. Cooperation in the marketing of oil, gas, and refined products was also addressed.
Furthermore, the meeting explored potential partnerships in the mining sector, specifically regarding the production and processing of phosphate and the development of phosphate and nitrogen fertilizer industries. These areas are considered to be of significant mutual interest.
Ambassador Kulkarni conveyed the interest of Indian companies in the Algerian market and their readiness to participate in ongoing and future projects. She reiterated New Delhi’s commitment to elevating economic cooperation to higher levels, serving the shared interests of both nations.
