Algiers, Algeria – President Abdelmadjid Tebboune reiterated Algeria’s unwavering support for the Palestinian cause, emphasizing that Algiers’ backing is “absolute and unconditional” until the Palestinian people regain all their legitimate rights. These rights, he affirmed, include the right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent state with Jerusalem as its capital.
The President’s reaffirmation came in a formal message delivered by the Minister of Veterans Affairs and Rights Holders, Abdelmalek Tachefript, during a gathering in Algiers commemorating the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People.
In his message, President Tebboune stated that the ongoing Israeli aggression against Gaza, the West Bank, and Jerusalem, characterized by the systematic destruction of infrastructure, targeting of the health sector, and the imposition of a suffocating blockade leading to starvation and displacement, is part of a policy aimed at making life impossible for Palestinians. However, he stressed that “all these crimes will not succeed in erasing the Palestinian state or obliterating its identity.”
The President further noted that despite the immense suffering and sacrifices, the Palestinian people “continue to persevere, raising the banner of struggle and the message of freedom from amidst the rubble.” He highlighted the growing international solidarity and increasing recognition of the State of Palestine, which strengthens the legitimacy of their struggle and bolsters their diplomatic efforts.
President Tebboune reaffirmed that Algeria will not deviate from its historical position and will remain alongside the Palestinian people until they regain all their rights within the 1967 borders, with Jerusalem as their capital. He also called on the international community to assume its responsibilities and exert pressure to enforce respect for international legitimacy, emphasizing the urgent need for a complete and immediate lifting of the blockade on the Gaza Strip and the opening of all crossings to allow the unimpeded delivery of humanitarian aid.
President Tebboune asserted that granting Palestine full membership in the United Nations has become an essential and pressing step to enshrine the Palestinian people’s right to establish their independent state. He added that Algeria “will remain faithful to its historical and moral obligations towards Palestine and will spare no effort to defend its legitimate rights until the establishment of a free and sovereign state.” DZWatch will continue to provide updates on this developing situation.
