A young Palestinian man has been killed by Israeli fire in the northern West Bank town of Qabatiya, amidst ongoing military operations by the Israeli army in the Tubas Governorate. The Palestinian Ministry of Health confirmed the death of Osama Yasser Kamil, who succumbed to his wounds sustained from Israeli gunfire late last night in Qabatiya, south of Jenin.
Concurrently, the Israeli military is continuing its military operation in Tubas for a second consecutive day, targeting five areas within the governorate. This involves the deployment of significant forces, conducting raids and searches, and detaining Palestinians.
Reports indicate that fifteen Palestinians have been injured as a result of beatings by Israeli forces, including an elderly man over 80 years old. Yesterday, seventy Palestinians were reportedly detained.
The Director of the Palestinian Red Crescent in Tubas Governorate, Nidal Odeh, stated that Israeli forces obstructed ambulance access to the town of Tamoun, establishing a military checkpoint at the entrance and searching medical crews and patients.
Prior to this, Israeli forces announced the killing of three Palestinians and the injury of ten others, hours after launching their military operation in Tubas on Wednesday morning.
A curfew and blockade have been imposed by Israeli forces on the city of Tubas, the Al-Far’a camp, and the villages of Aqaba, Tamoun, and Tayasir, as well as several gatherings and areas in the northern Jordan Valley. Numerous homes have been raided, with some converted into military barracks.
The Israeli army stated that a large-scale military operation was launched in the area in cooperation with the Shin Bet internal security service and the Border Guard, involving fighter jets, helicopters, and drones. This was based on what they claim to be intelligence information about activities suspected of being linked to Palestinian armed groups and the construction of infrastructure to target the army.
Israeli media outlets have quoted military sources stating that the operation followed an increase in attempted Palestinian attacks in recent weeks and movements aimed at reforming armed groups.
The Israeli army further stated that special forces are combing dozens of buildings and interrogating suspected Palestinians in the area, asserting that the operation will continue to ‘prevent the entrenchment of terrorism and remove any security threat,’ according to their claims.
