Trump Endorses Nasry Asfura in Honduran Election

Washington D.C. – Former U.S. President Donald Trump has publicly endorsed right-wing candidate Nasry ‘Tito’ Asfura in the upcoming Honduran presidential election. Trump stated that he believes he and Asfura can work together to combat what he described as ‘communist drug dealers’ in the region.

In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump referred to Asfura as ‘the only true friend of freedom in Honduras.’ He further elaborated on his support, stating, ‘Tito and I can work together to fight the drug cartels and provide the necessary assistance to the people of Honduras.’

Asfura, 67, a former mayor of the Honduran capital and of Palestinian descent, is currently engaged in a heated race against a leftist lawyer and a right-wing television presenter in the lead-up to Sunday’s election.

Asfura responded to Trump’s endorsement with gratitude, posting on social media, ‘We stand firm in our commitment to defend our democracy, our freedom, and the values that make our country great.’ He welcomed the former president’s support.

Trump also drew a parallel between the situation in Honduras and Venezuela, suggesting possible intervention. He questioned whether Nicolas Maduro, the leftist president of Venezuela whom he accuses of running a drug cartel, and ‘terrorist drug smugglers’ would be able to take over another country.

Honduras is considered one of the most violent countries in Latin America, largely due to the presence of powerful gangs controlling drug trafficking and organized crime. The election is expected to be closely contested and will have significant implications for the country’s future.
