Grand Mosque of Algiers to Fortify Unified Religious Authority

Algiers, November 28, 2025 – The Grand Mosque of Algiers will serve as a stronghold for a unified religious authority, fulfilling a vision articulated by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune upon the mosque’s inauguration. This statement was made by Sheikh Mohammed El-Maamoun Al-Qasimi Al-Hassani, Dean of the Grand Mosque, following a meeting with the President.

The Dean stated that he presented a review of the accomplishments within the Grand Mosque’s various institutions and bodies to President Tebboune. He emphasized that these achievements align with the civilizational message the mosque strives to embody, echoing the President’s vision for the religious landmark.

“Our current efforts are focused on fostering collaboration with prominent academic centers across the Arab and Islamic world, with a particular emphasis on African nations,” Sheikh Al-Hassani explained. He further announced that the Higher School of Islamic Sciences (Dar Al-Qur’an) will soon welcome its first cohort of international students.

The Dean affirmed that the mosque’s institutions have commenced the implementation of planned programs according to schedule. “The Grand Mosque, as envisioned by the President and hoped for by the Algerian people, will stand as a bastion of unified religious authority, both now and in the future,” he concluded. The mosque aims to be a center for religious learning and cultural exchange, promoting a moderate and unified understanding of Islam.
