President Tebboune Offers Condolences on Death of Nigerian Scholar

Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune has extended his heartfelt condolences to the family of Sheikh Tahir Uthman Bauchi, the late Khalifa of the Tijaniyya Order in Nigeria. The President conveyed his sorrow following the passing of the prominent Islamic figure.

In a message of condolence, President Tebboune stated, “To the family of the esteemed scholar, Tahir Uthman Bauchi, may God have mercy on him… It is with deep sorrow that we receive this painful news. We can only say what pleases God. May God have mercy on you, grant you spacious gardens, and accept you in the highest ranks of Paradise.”

The President emphasized the significant loss to the Muslim Ummah, noting that Sheikh Tahir Uthman Bauchi, a renowned Nigerian Islamic scholar and spiritual guide of the Tijaniyya Order, passed away at a time when the Ummah is in dire need of his wisdom. He highlighted the Sheikh’s profound knowledge, which illuminated countries across the African continent and beyond. The late Khalifa contributed alongside other scholars to spreading the faith and strengthening bonds within the Islamic world, consistently representing Islam in the best possible manner.

“As we mourn this great loss,” President Tebboune added, “I extend, in my own name and on behalf of the entire nation of Algeria, my sincere condolences and deepest sympathy to his family and all his loved ones worldwide, especially his brothers and students in the Tijaniyya Order in sisterly Nigeria. I pray to Almighty God to shower him with mercy and grant his family patience and solace. Indeed, to God we belong, and to Him we shall return.”

The Tijaniyya Order is a prominent Sufi order with a significant following across Africa, particularly in Nigeria. Sheikh Tahir Uthman Bauchi’s passing marks a profound loss for the order and the wider Islamic community.
