Kyiv Under Attack: Casualties Reported Amidst Intense Russian Strikes

Kyiv has been rocked by a series of intense Russian attacks, resulting in casualties and widespread damage. Ukrainian military officials report at least two fatalities and 24 injuries following a barrage of drone and missile strikes on the capital city that began early this morning.

Ukraine’s Foreign Minister, Andriy Sybiha, described the situation as dire, stating that Russia launched dozens of cruise and ballistic missiles, along with approximately 500 drones, targeting residential areas, the power grid, and critical infrastructure within Kyiv. “While everyone discusses peace plans, Russia continues to implement its war plan,” he stated.

Timur Tkachenko, head of Kyiv’s military administration, confirmed strikes on at least six locations throughout the city. He reported powerful explosions and significant damage to residential buildings and other structures in the city, home to an estimated three million people.

Authorities activated ground and air defenses in an attempt to counter what they described as a complex, multi-pronged Russian assault. Images circulating online show at least one residential building engulfed in flames, with emergency responders working amidst the wreckage and debris-strewn streets.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko issued urgent warnings to residents, urging them to seek shelter immediately. He emphasized the ongoing threat, stating, “There are currently seven injured in the capital. Paramedics have transported four of them to the hospital.” Klitschko had previously reported that a 13-year-old boy was among those injured.

Earlier this week, Kyiv was targeted in another overnight drone and missile attack that, according to officials, resulted in seven deaths and several fires in residential buildings.
