Algiers, November 29, 2025 – President Abdelmadjid Tebboune has extended his deepest condolences to the family of Sheikh Tahir Uthman Bauchi, the Khalifa of the Tijaniyya Order in Nigeria, following his passing. The president conveyed his heartfelt sympathy in a message addressed to the family of the esteemed scholar.
In his message, President Tebboune expressed profound sorrow at the loss, stating, “It is with deep sadness that we receive the news of the passing of Sheikh Tahir Uthman Bauchi. We can only submit to the will of Allah. May Allah have mercy on him, grant him spaciousness in Paradise, and accept him among the righteous.”
The President emphasized the significant loss for the entire Islamic Ummah, highlighting Sheikh Tahir Uthman Bauchi’s role as a prominent Islamic scholar, a spiritual guide within the Tijaniyya Order, and a beacon of knowledge. “The death of Sheikh Tahir Uthman Bauchi, a Nigerian Islamic scholar and one of the spiritual guides of the Tijaniyya Order, is a great loss for the Islamic nation, especially at a time when the Ummah is in dire need of his wisdom and guidance. He possessed a wealth of knowledge, illuminating countries across our continent and beyond. He contributed alongside other scholars of the Ummah in spreading the faith and strengthening bonds between Islamic lands, always representing our true religion to the world.”
President Tebboune, on behalf of himself and the Algerian people, offered sincere condolences and deep sympathy to the family of the deceased and to all his followers worldwide, particularly mentioning his brothers and students within the Tijaniyya Order in Nigeria. He prayed to Almighty Allah to shower the late Sheikh with mercy and grant his family patience and solace during this difficult time. The president concluded his message with the traditional Islamic expression of grief: “Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un” (Indeed, to Allah we belong, and to Him we shall return).
