Spectacular Finale for ‘Alhan wa Chabab’ Program

Algiers, October 30, 2025 – The Boualem Bessaih Opera House in Algiers was buzzing with excitement Wednesday evening as the curtain closed on the ninth edition of the popular talent show, ‘Alhan wa Chabab’ (Melodies and Youth).

A large audience, including government officials, prominent figures from the arts and media, and former contestants, attended the exceptional evening. Millions more watched from their homes via a live broadcast on national television, sharing in a moment of national unity and cultural pride. This underscores the iconic status of ‘Alhan wa Chabab’ within the Algerian artistic landscape.

‘Alhan wa Chabab’ first aired in the 1980s and has since become a veritable institution for Algerian music. It has provided a platform for generations of artists to emerge and promote national culture, with some achieving international recognition. The 2025 edition successfully preserved this legacy while embracing new musical expressions, showcasing the richness and diversity of Algerian cultural heritage.

After a journey filled with passion and hard work, Ms. Zina Laarab was awarded the grand prize for this season. Her powerful voice and refined performance captivated the audience, earning her the most votes. The second-place prize went to the young artist, Asmahan Menacer, who impressed with her diverse musical performances, reflecting the richness of Algerian musical styles. Emad Eddine Guenaoua, the third-place winner, won hearts with his authenticity and his style inspired by Gnawa music, a symbol of the deep roots of Algerian popular culture.
