Damascus, Syria – The United Nations has issued a strong condemnation of the recent incursion by Israeli forces into the rural Damascus region of Syria. The UN cited the action as a violation of Syrian sovereignty and territorial integrity, following reports of casualties resulting from the operation.
Najet Rochdi, Deputy Special Envoy of the United Nations for Syria, released a statement emphasizing the UN’s grave concern. “Such actions are a serious and unacceptable violation of the sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity of Syria,” Rochdi stated. “These actions further destabilize an already fragile environment.”
The UN reiterated its unwavering commitment to the sovereignty, unity, independence, and territorial integrity of Syria. The statement called for an immediate cessation of all such violations and urged full adherence to the 1974 Disengagement Agreement between Israel and Syria.
Syrian authorities reported that thirteen people were killed, and dozens more injured, including children, in an attack on the town of Beit Jinn in rural Damascus on Friday. The Syrian government attributed the attack to Israeli forces.
DZWatch continues to monitor the situation closely and will provide further updates as they become available.
