Ataf and de La Croix Discuss Peace Challenges in Africa

Algiers, DZWatch – Ahmed Ataf, the Algerian Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad, and African Affairs, met with Jean-Pierre Lacroix, the United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations, on Sunday evening. The meeting took place on the eve of the 12th session of the ‘Oran Process’ on Peace and Security in Africa, scheduled to be held in Algiers on December 1st and 2nd.

During the discussions, both parties reviewed the latest security developments across Africa. They specifically addressed the challenges these developments pose to peacekeeping operations, highlighting the UN’s commitment to the African continent through these missions.

The meeting also provided an opportunity for Minister Ataf and Under-Secretary-General de La Croix to exchange perspectives on the situation in the Sahel region. This included an examination of the ongoing security concerns and the impact on regional stability. Particular attention was given to the latest developments concerning the Western Sahara issue.

The ‘Oran Process’ is a key initiative focused on promoting peace and security cooperation among African nations. The upcoming session in Algiers will bring together representatives from across the continent to address pressing security challenges and explore avenues for collaborative solutions.
