Algerians Offer Prayers for Rain Across the Nation

Algiers, November 1, 2025 – Algerians across the country gathered in mosques this morning to perform Salat al-Istisqa, the prayer for rain. This widespread observance follows a call from the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Endowments, prompted by a significant delay in rainfall.

The Ministry issued its call last Wednesday, urging citizens to participate in the prayer, adhering to the tradition of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). The initiative aims to seek divine intervention to alleviate the ongoing drought conditions.

In its announcement, the Ministry emphasized the importance of utilizing religious gatherings, including lessons, regular prayers, and Friday sermons, as opportunities for supplication and prayer. Imams were encouraged to remind congregations of the principles and etiquette associated with Salat al-Istisqa. These include sincere repentance, seeking forgiveness, rectifying injustices, strengthening family ties, fasting prior to the prayer, and acts of charity towards the poor and needy.

“These acts of piety are intended to promote mercy and foster social solidarity among the population,” a Ministry spokesperson stated.

The unified prayer underscores the nation’s collective hope for much-needed rainfall to replenish water resources and support agricultural activities. The widespread participation reflects the deep-rooted faith and communal spirit prevalent throughout Algeria.

The effects of the delayed rainfall have been felt across various sectors, particularly agriculture, raising concerns about potential impacts on food security and the economy. The prayers for rain represent a unified plea for divine assistance in overcoming these challenges and ensuring a prosperous future for all Algerians.
