Algiers, November 30, 2025 – Algeria possesses the necessary qualifications to achieve a favorable ranking in the Global Innovation Index, according to participants at the National Innovation Conference held Sunday in Algiers.
The conference, organized by the Ministry of Industry, brought together experts and stakeholders to discuss Algeria’s potential in the field of innovation. Speakers emphasized that Algeria has significant capabilities that could position it well in the prestigious index, which is published annually by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).
“Algeria’s human capital, research institutions, and emerging entrepreneurial ecosystem represent a strong foundation for innovation,” stated a representative from the Ministry of Industry during the conference. “By fostering collaboration between academia, industry, and government, we can unlock Algeria’s full innovative potential.”
The Global Innovation Index assesses countries based on a wide range of factors, including research and development spending, patent filings, technological infrastructure, and market sophistication. A higher ranking in the index can attract foreign investment, boost economic growth, and enhance a country’s global competitiveness.
Participants at the conference highlighted the need for continued investment in education, research, and development to further strengthen Algeria’s innovation ecosystem. They also stressed the importance of creating a supportive regulatory environment that encourages entrepreneurship and protects intellectual property rights.
The Ministry of Industry is committed to implementing policies and programs that will promote innovation across all sectors of the Algerian economy. This includes initiatives to support startups, facilitate technology transfer, and encourage collaboration between research institutions and industry.
With its abundant natural resources, a young and dynamic population, and a growing commitment to innovation, Algeria is well-positioned to become a major player in the global innovation landscape.
