Qatari Red Crescent Restores Vital Health Centers in Gaza

Gaza – The Qatari Red Crescent is undertaking a vital project to rehabilitate four health centers in the Gaza Strip, aiming to alleviate the ongoing humanitarian crisis. These facilities, affiliated with the Palestinian Ministry of Health, sustained significant damage during the Israeli offensive on Gaza.

The project, implemented in collaboration with the “Ghazi Dastak” organization, focuses on boosting the operational capacity of these crucial medical facilities. The goal is to ensure the continuous provision of essential medical services to the local population, particularly given the challenging conditions endured over the past two years.

Dr. Akram Nassar, director of the Qatari Red Crescent office in Gaza, stated that restoration work is nearing completion at the Nuseirat and Maghazi health centers in the central governorate. These efforts include comprehensive structural, electrical, and mechanical repairs to fully rehabilitate the facilities and ensure their operational readiness.

Furthermore, the project encompasses the renovation of an administrative section attached to the cardiology department, as well as a storage facility for medical equipment and consumables, within the Al-Shifa Medical Complex. Maintenance is also being conducted on several health rooms at the “Friends of the Patient” charitable clinic in Gaza City. Dr. Nassar emphasized that these restored centers will directly serve approximately 300,000 people, in addition to tens of thousands of displaced individuals residing in these areas.

Dr. Marwan Abu Saada, Director-General of International Cooperation and Projects at the Palestinian Ministry of Health, highlighted the severe impact of the conflict. He noted that the offensive resulted in the complete or partial destruction or disabling of over 22 hospitals and 96 health centers, posing a significant challenge to providing essential services to patients and the injured. Dr. Abu Saada affirmed the Ministry’s ongoing coordination efforts with international organizations to secure medications, medical supplies, and the necessary fuel to operate generators in the remaining functional centers.

The Qatari Red Crescent is investing a total of $1.4 million in this project, demonstrating its commitment to mitigating the humanitarian impact and addressing urgent needs within the Gaza Strip.
