QUNEITRA, SYRIA – Israeli forces conducted a third incursion into the Quneitra region of southwestern Syria on Monday, raising concerns about escalating tensions despite recent warnings from Washington.
According to reports from the area, the incursion involved four military vehicles and two tanks entering the Al-Hamriya hill area, located between the towns of Hadar and Trunja in northern Quneitra. The incident occurred shortly after renewed calls from the United States for restraint.
The reported incursions follow a period of heightened activity in the region. Local sources indicate that previous incursions on Monday involved the firing of weapons towards civilian homes in the village of Abu Qubeis. Residents of Quneitra have expressed growing concerns over the increased Israeli military presence and its impact on their agricultural lands, which serve as a primary source of livelihood.
Tensions have been further strained following a recent incident in Beit Jinn, rural Damascus, where six Israeli soldiers were reportedly injured in a shooting. The incident occurred after an Israeli patrol entered the town early Friday. Subsequent Israeli airstrikes on the town resulted in casualties, including women and children, and numerous injuries.
The Israeli Prime Minister’s office acknowledged a phone call between Prime Minister Netanyahu and U.S. officials on Monday evening. Reports suggest that the call was part of an effort to de-escalate tensions following the series of incursions into southern Syria. Washington is reportedly seeking to mediate and ease tensions between the involved parties following the weekend’s events.
