Seven Public Employees Arrested in Schoolbook Theft Ring

Algiers, December 2, 2025 – Authorities in Algiers have apprehended seven public employees suspected of involvement in a large-scale theft of school textbooks. The arrests were carried out by the judicial police of the Dararia administrative district following an investigation into reported losses from a state-owned printing company.

According to a statement released by the National Security services, the investigation was launched after the printing company filed a formal complaint regarding the significant disappearance of textbooks. Acting under the supervision of the relevant public prosecutor, police investigators conducted a thorough inquiry that led to the identification and subsequent arrest of the seven suspects.

All seven individuals were employees of the printing company. During the operation, authorities successfully recovered 2,560 stolen textbooks. The recovered books are being processed as evidence in the case.

The suspects have been presented before the competent regional prosecutor and are awaiting further legal proceedings. This incident highlights the ongoing efforts to combat corruption and ensure the proper distribution of educational resources within the country.
