Algeria and Belarus Explore Educational Partnership, Student Exchanges

Algiers, December 2, 2025 – Algeria and Belarus are forging closer ties in education, with discussions focusing on collaborative initiatives and student exchange programs. The Minister of National Education, Mohamed Seghir Saadaoui, received his Belarusian counterpart, Andrei Ivanovich Ivanets, at the ministry headquarters in Algiers on Tuesday.

The meeting served as a platform to explore potential avenues for bilateral cooperation in the educational sphere, paving the way for a new partnership between the two nations. Minister Saadaoui provided a detailed overview of the Algerian education system, highlighting the government’s commitment to enhancing the quality of education. He emphasized Algeria’s dedication to providing free, compulsory, and democratic education as a cornerstone of the state’s social policy.

Furthermore, Minister Saadaoui outlined ongoing efforts to promote technological education, integrate information and communication technologies, and digitize education in line with modern standards, all aimed at improving the learning environment in educational institutions.

Minister Ivanets reciprocated with a comprehensive presentation of the Belarusian education system, emphasizing its strengths and technical practices. He elaborated on the continuous teacher training program, conducted every three years, and the comprehensive development programs for students starting from pre-school, reflecting a holistic approach to improving education quality from its foundation.

Both ministers agreed to establish a joint working committee to define practical steps for implementing educational cooperation, fostering the exchange of expertise and advancing education in both countries. As part of this initiative, Minister Saadaoui extended an invitation to his Belarusian counterpart to send a group of Belarusian students to Algeria under a twinning program between educational institutions. This would include visits to science clubs, including robotics and environmental clubs, and national higher education institutions, strengthening educational partnerships and knowledge sharing.

In return, Minister Ivanets invited a group of twenty Algerian students to Belarus to experience the Belarusian educational system firsthand and learn about its educational environment and pedagogical programs. To showcase Algerian educational institutions, Minister Saadaoui accompanied his Belarusian counterpart on a visit to several schools, including the Bachir El Ibrahimi School.

These exchanges are expected to significantly contribute to the advancement of educational practices and foster stronger ties between Algeria and Belarus.
