Algeria and Belarus are experiencing a period of enhanced political and economic engagement, driven by a mutual desire to strengthen bilateral relations and explore new avenues for partnership and cooperation. The leaders of both nations, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune of Algeria and President Alexander Lukashenko of Belarus, are committed to fostering this growth.
The official visit of the Belarusian President to Algeria on Tuesday marks a significant step in this direction. This visit provides an opportunity to further solidify the existing trust and mutual respect between the two countries, with the aim of elevating their relationship to new heights. This includes the potential signing of new agreements and the establishment of joint ventures across various sectors.
The dynamic nature of Algerian-Belarusian relations is reflected in the frequent communication between the two heads of state, as well as reciprocal meetings and visits by government officials. President Lukashenko has previously expressed Belarus’s interest in revitalizing political dialogue with Algeria and expanding bilateral interaction across various fields, aligning with the interests of both nations.
President Tebboune received a congratulatory message from his Belarusian counterpart on the anniversary of the Algerian Revolution, where Lukashenko emphasized that Algeria and Belarus serve as a model for effective international cooperation, steadfastly upholding the principles of national sovereignty and rejecting external pressure and sanctions.
In anticipation of the official visit, Algerian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ahmed Attaf, met with his Belarusian counterpart, Maxim Ryzhenkov, to review the current state and future prospects of cooperation and friendship between the two countries. They also finalized preparations for upcoming bilateral engagements designed to inject new momentum into the relationship.
Furthermore, the Algerian-Belarusian Economic Forum, held in Algiers, facilitated discussions on strengthening economic partnerships and reaffirmed the commitment of both countries to expanding trade and investment opportunities. The forum saw the participation of Algeria’s Minister of Trade, Kamel Rezig, and Belarus’s Minister of Anti-Monopoly Regulation and Trade, Alexei Bogdanov.
These recent developments build upon the foundation laid during the inaugural session of the Algerian-Belarusian Joint Committee for Trade, Economic, Scientific, and Technical Cooperation, demonstrating a sustained effort to deepen collaboration between the two nations.
