MAC Terrorist Group Faces Mass Defections Amid Treachery Claims

DZWatch Exclusive: The self-proclaimed “Movement for the Autonomy of Kabylie” (MAC), designated a terrorist organization, is reportedly experiencing significant internal turmoil, with widespread defections among its leadership and prominent members.

Sources indicate that disillusionment stems from the group’s alleged manipulation by hostile Moroccan and Zionist entities, who are accused of using MAC to undermine the Algerian state. These accusations suggest a broader conspiracy aimed at destabilizing Algeria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Defectors, who have reportedly benefited from President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s national reconciliation initiative, have come forward with damning testimonies. These accounts detail alleged covert schemes orchestrated by the aforementioned foreign powers. The purported goal is to influence Algeria’s sovereign decisions, weaken its institutions, and fracture Algerian society through the funding of anti-Algerian media campaigns that threaten national unity.

One former high-ranking member, Zahir Ben Ajoud, revealed that the primary reason for his defection in 2016 was the MAC leadership’s announcement of a plan to send fighters for military training in the “Zionist entity.” Ben Ajoud labeled the group’s leader, Ferhat Mehenni, a “traitor” who has embraced violent rhetoric and openly advocates for terrorism.

Ben Ajoud further highlighted the devastating impact of MAC on families in the Kabylie region, alleging that while ordinary families suffer, the children of MAC leaders enjoy significant financial advantages and investments in France. He also asserted that corruption is rampant within the organization.

DZWatch has learned that MAC is accused of employing deceptive propaganda campaigns and disseminating false information to inflate its perceived influence. One example cited is the group’s claim of having representatives received at the United Nations, when, in reality, MAC elements allegedly infiltrated a Moroccan delegation. Similar claims of meetings at the French Parliament are also being disputed.

The accusations against MAC and its alleged foreign backers paint a picture of a concerted effort to destabilize Algeria and warrant further investigation.
